Meet The Team

We work hard and play hard too ….

KaraHands is a private Wellington home offering Shared Care for those families looking after loved ones, particularly children with high and complex medical needs. It’s built on Care Friendship and Support.

Helen Henderson, [Family Carer]

After training as a nurse in Hutt Hospital in the 1970s and completing an Advanced Diploma in Nursing with a special interest in paediatric care, Helen witnessed first-hand the impact of special needs on children and their families.  This fuelled her passion to provide loving home care delivered with expert nursing.  What started out as weekend respite care, has grown into a full-time vocation of caring within a homely environment.

Helen has devoted much of her life to this remarkable cause.  Not only has she greatly impacted the lives and development of both the children and their families who have been cared for by KaraHands, but her contribution to the community has also been honourable.  In February 2015, Helen was a semi-finalist in Kiwibank’s New Zealander of the Year awards and in February 2016, she became the first person outside of Inner Wheel to be presented with the Margarette Golding award.

Helen is interested in offering not only traditional nursing to provide comfort and alleviate suffering, but also a holistic healing approach and has undertaken study in Homeopathy and Aura Soma.
